We will build on our tradition of disciplinary excellence, as well as give our

CIS is more committed than ever to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), whose ethos, design and benefits align seamlessly with those of our own community. At the same time, should
such an alternative be better suited to their personal strengths and
needs, we will provide our students with an additional pathway
to Graduation in the form of a CIS diploma that combines IB certificates
and CIS-created courses.
漢基將更全面推行國際文憑大學預科課程(IBDP),其理念、設計及

Standing at the juncture of East and West, CIS is uniquely
placed to serve as a centre for advancing the intercultural
understanding of young people. While Eastern and Western
perspectives will be our focus, we will also broach more
general issues of diversity, equity and inclusion
in the contemporary world.

What is a strategic plan and why do we need one?遠景規劃是什麼?我們為何需要遠景規劃?
We seek to improve our school each and every day, but we also do our utmost to ensure that CIS is able to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of the future. Consequently, we have created a blueprint for the decade ahead which identifies the priorities, goals and first initiatives which our students deserve. For us, this plan will be a living framework that inspires action, guides our allocation of resources, and provides accountability during the period between now and our 50th anniversary in 2033.我們致力於日臻完善、精益求精,同時也盡最大努力確保漢基能應對未來的挑戰並抓住機遇。因此,我們制定了一個十年發展藍圖,確定了為保證學生成長所需開展的重點工作以及所需達到的切實目標。此規劃對漢基而言將是一個靈活生動的發展框架,貫穿現在至2033年建校五十週年間,在此進程中激勵我們採取措施,指導我們分配資源,並為我們提供問責制架構。
When did we start developing our strategic plan and what has the process been?何時開始制定遠景規劃及其過程將如何進行?
Our strategic planning process began in September 2020 with a review of our Guiding Statements. We then used our new Mission Statement, Values and School Motto as the starting point for developing the strategic directions that will shape the coming 10 years. Our approach has been inclusive from the outset, with students, staff, parents, alumni, and friends of CIS completing anonymous surveys, participating in focus group discussions, and serving on task forces, ensuring strong community ownership of everything involved.遠景規劃進程始於2020年9月,當時我們重新審查了辦學理念。其後,我們將新的辦校宗旨與核心價值以及校訓作為制定規劃方向的起點,依此規劃決定我校未來十年的發展。而制定規劃的方式極具包容性,學生、教職員工、家長、校友及漢基之友完成了匿名調查問卷,參與了焦點小組討論並在工作組中任職,確保了社區羣體的充分自主權。
What is our timeline for implementing Vision ‘33?實施「願景 33」的時間表如何規劃?
At CIS, we will always uphold a range of continuing commitments to excellence across all facets of school life. With regard to those initiatives which come specifically from Vision ‘33, we have already started to implement some of them. While those which we have identified thus far can be classified into short-term, medium-term, and long-term categories, we will be laying out the details of Year One in August 2022 and doing the same for each year thereafter at the start of every back-to-school period.在漢基,我們堅守承諾,致力於在校園生活的各個方面不斷追求卓越。關於「願景 33」的具體措施,我們已開始實施其中的一部分。迄今為止我們已確定的措施可分為短期、中期和長期三類,我們將於2022年8月公布規劃第一年的細節,而之後每學年初皆會更新。

We will provide the CIS community with annual updates on our key achievements in each of the three Vision ‘33 priority areas: “Each Learner Flourishing,” “New Paths Discovered,” and “Bridges for Good.” We believe that it will be important every year to look back on what we have accomplished and to look forward to what we will be aiming to do next. In our view, strategic planning must be a generative process, not a static one. We will adapt to changing circumstances and ensure that our strategic plan continues to serve the needs of our students.我們每年將更新所取得的主要成就,向漢基社區展示「願景 33」的三個工作重點:「綻放自我,開闢新徑,搭建橋樑」。我們堅信,每年回顧階段性成就並展望下一個目標將是非常重要的。遠景規劃必須是一個生生不息而非停滯不前的過程。我們將不斷適應變換的環境,確保遠景規劃繼續服務學生所需。
How will we fund Vision ‘33? 我們將如何為「願景 33」提供資金?
In large part, the continuous improvement of our school is achieved through the constant streamlining and reallocation of our existing resources. When additional funding for the CIS operating budget is needed, we have historically relied on tuition fees and annual capital levies, with additional support coming from our Annual Fund and any major gifts we may receive. Some of our Vision '33 initiatives will also require a capital campaign, one that we envisage launching in the 2023-2024 school year.總體而言,學校的持續改進是通過不斷精簡和重新分配現有資源來實現的。當漢基的運營預算需要額外資金支持時,我們歷來依靠學費、年度建校費,以及「年度基金」和其它的大額捐贈。而「願景33」中的一些項目也需要通過募款籌得資金,我們設想在2023-2024學年啟動這項計劃。
We have heard that CIS aims to build an endowment as part of Vision ‘33. What is an endowment and why is having one important for a non-profit organisation like us?我們聽說漢基計劃建立一個「儲備基金」,以此作為「願景 33」中的一環。「儲備基金」是什麼?為何擁有「儲備基金」對我們這樣的非牟利組織很重要?
Vision ‘33 is all about ensuring that CIS will continue to thrive and remain a vibrant, relevant and enduring institution. An essential means of achieving that goal is the responsible financial stewardship which only an endowment can provide. Indeed, an endowment is a special fund whose principal is kept in perpetuity for the purpose of securing the organisation’s future, but whose yearly interest-generated revenues can be used to bolster important operating expenses. Creating a robust endowment will allow our school to celebrate our 50th anniversary with redoubled confidence and ensure that we are able to serve successive generations of CIS students over the long term.「願景 33」旨在確保漢基蓬勃發展並維持自身為一個充滿活力、富有意義且經久不衰的機構。實現此目標的關鍵之一便是行之有效的財務管理,而這只有通過「儲備基金」才能確保落實。事實上「儲備基金」是一項特殊基金,其本金為永續年金,以確保學校的未來發展,但其每年產生的利息收入可用於支持重要的運營費用。創建一個強大的「儲備基金」將使我們更加滿懷信心迎接五十週年校慶,並確保漢基未來的學生能夠受益。
What are the key strategic priorities of our strategic plan?遠景規劃中的工作重點是什麼?
Vision ‘33 contains three key priorities. “Each Learner Flourishing:” ensuring that each learner in our community, whether student, staff, or parent, has the tools to thrive. “New Paths Discovered:” ensuring that we remain forward-thinking and adapt our educational programmes to better prepare our students for successful futures in a rapidly-changing world. “Bridges for Good:” ensuring that service learning, intercultural understanding, sustainability, and global citizenship are pillars of a CIS education.「願景 33」包含三個工作重點——(1)「綻放自我」:確保我們社區的每一位求學者,無論是學生、家長或是教職員,都擁有全面發展的途徑;(2)「開闢新徑」:確保思維前瞻性,適時調整教育方案,以培養學生在瞬息萬變的環境中為今後的成功做準備;(3)「搭建橋樑」:確保服務性學習、跨文化理解、可持續發展以及全球公民意識成為漢基的教育支柱。

What is personalised learning?何為個性化學習?
Students learn best, and learn to love learning, when we offer them an education that builds on their strengths, needs, and passions. Personalised learning includes a variety of pedagogical approaches and support strategies to address the uniqueness of individual students. Characteristics of personalised learning environments include student-centered instruction, real-world engagement, and student agency.當我們因應學生各自具備的優點、需求與愛好因材施教時,學生就能取得最佳學習效果,並由衷地熱愛學習。個性化學習包括多樣化的教學方法和輔助策略以貼合個體學生的獨特性。個性化學習的特色包括:以學生為中心的教學,切實參與現實世界以及學生全情投入學習。
What is Visible Well-Being?何為具象化福祉?
Visible Well-Being combines the science of well-being with the science of learning to help students and staff clearly understand their own and others’ well-being needs, systematically advance well-being for themselves and those around them, and carefully build on that sense of well-being for the purpose of effective learning. Because teacher and parent well-being has an enormous impact on the student experience, we will ensure that our Visible Well-Being programme provides all members of our community with the tools they need to flourish.具象化福祉將「福祉科學」與「學習科學」相結合,以幫助學生和教職員清晰了解自身和他人的福祉需求,系統地提升個人和身邊人的福祉,並著重建立對福祉的重視以確保有效性學習。由於教師及家長的福祉體驗對學生有著深遠影響,我們將確保具象化福祉能為社區的成員提供所需的資源,从而使他們全面發展。
Why do we need an Innovation Lab?我們為何需要創立創新型實驗室?
We are establishing an Innovation Lab at CIS so that we can take our leadership in bilingual and intercultural education to the next level. Our aim is to encourage and support our faculty in researching and developing cutting-edge pedagogical approaches. With a view to multiplying our impact, we plan to make our discoveries and practices available to fellow learning communities in Hong Kong and beyond.我們正在漢基創立一所創新型實驗室,致力提升雙語及跨文化教育至新的高度。我們旨在鼓勵與支持教師進行學術研究及研發具革新性質的教學方法。為擴大影響力,我們計劃將研究成果和實踐分享給全香港乃至世界各地的教育界同仁。
New Paths Discovered開闢新徑
What changes, if any, do we expect to make to the organisation of time and space at our school?是否有計劃重新規劃課時安排與學習空間?
Whereas CIS has traditionally been organised into a Primary Division and a Secondary Division, we may be moving towards a structure that is more closely linked to the stages of student development (e.g. Early Childhood, Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary) and rethinking the organisation of time and space for each of these phases. The Primary timetable is likely to change and we are also exploring modifications in Secondary. In addition, we have kicked off an inclusive process to create a master building plan that will serve as a reference for the future development of our learning spaces. We are quite certain that we will need to renovate our Primary school and may re-envision Secondary, too.漢基依據慣例分為小學部和中學部,但為了更貼合學生發展階段,未來我們可能會將其調整為幼小、初小和高小,以及初中和高中,並重新規劃各個階段的課時安排和學習空間。小學部的時間表可能會有所調整,同時中學部也在探討調整方案。 此外,我們已經開始制定校園總體設施規劃,過程中將有全校各方面人員參與,該規劃將作為未來改進學習空間的參考方案。 非常肯定的是,我們計劃翻新小學部,也將考慮修改中學部的教學空間。
What is project-based learning?何為項目式學習?
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is an approach towards teaching and learning in which students work for an extended period of time on investigating and responding to authentic real-world problems and challenges. In addition to rigorous academic knowledge, PBL permits students to gain invaluable knowledge, skills and dispositions which will allow them to excel at university, in their future careers, and across many other facets of their lives beyond CIS.項目式學習 (PBL) 是一種教學方法,學生通過長期專注於某一課題來研究和應對現實世界中的真實問題和挑戰。項目式學習在幫助學生牢固掌握學科知識的同時,使學生獲得寶貴的技能和處事技巧,促使他們在大學、未來職場以及個人生活的方方面面盡展所長。
Why should we develop a CIS stand-alone diploma?為何我們要創立漢基校本文憑?
Building on the outstanding reputation of our school, we plan to establish a CIS stand-alone diploma that will allow our students to customise their programmes of study with a combination of IB classes and CIS-created courses, our main goal being to cater to each learner’s unique strengths and interests. How important is the GBA to the future of CIS?大灣區對於漢基未來有多重要?
The Greater Bay Area (GBA) is the most dynamic region in the world and a leading global hub for technological innovation and artistic creativity. We will build on our fortnight-long China Experience Programmes for Year 7-9 students and year-long Hangzhou CIS programme for Year 10 students to create additional enrichment opportunities in the GBA for all of our students. These opportunities will include exchanges with local schools, internships, research with regional universities, and service learning activities. In so doing, our students will develop an ever deeper understanding of contemporary China, make a difference in our broader community, and develop a lifelong commitment to serving the greater good.大灣區是全球最具活力的地區,也是全球領先的科技創新和藝術創意中心。 我們將在七至九年級為期兩週的「體驗中國」項目,以及十年級為期一年的「杭州漢基」項目的基礎上繼續拓展,為所有學生在大灣區創造更多豐富的學習機會,包括與當地學校的互動交流、實習,與區域內的大學開展研究和服務學習等活動。我們期許學生藉此機會對當代中國文化有更深入的了解,在更廣泛的社區中作出貢獻,並培養終身奉獻公益的承諾。
Why do we need a Centre for Intercultural Understanding?為何我們需要一個跨文化交流中心?
Culture, understood as the scientific, artistic, technological and other creations of a particular civilization, is something to which we believe all of our students should be deeply exposed. To that end, and with a special focus on contemporary China, we will provide them with a rich programme of cultural learning through speakers series, expert residencies and other such offerings. Moreover, in today’s globalised world, we believe in cultivating our students’ ability to understand, as well as communicate, collaborate, and develop respectful relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. As a result, our future Centre will also nurture their competencies in serving as a bridge between East and West and indeed as a bridge across all manner of different cultures. 「文化」被定義為特定文明的科學、藝術、技術及其他形式的創造,而我們認為所有學生都應對之深入探索。 我們將尤其關注當代中國文化,通過演講系列、駐校學者和其它類似活動為學生提供豐富的文化學習項目。在當今全球化的世界中,我們重視培育學生的理解、交流和合作的能力,以及與來自不同背景、具有相異觀點的人建立相互尊重的關係的能力。該中心最終將起到紐帶的作用,協助把學生培養成為東西方文化的橋樑,甚至是跨越各種不同文化的橋樑。
What commitment to sustainability is CIS making?漢基對於可持續發展做出哪些承諾?
Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our times and we must be responsible custodians of the resources we use, as well as effective champions of the natural environments of which we are a part. Believing sustainability to be a core value of our community, we are committed to upholding sustainable practices and empowering our students to build a sustainable future.
